Diamond Seeds and Substrates
Mosaics and Single Crystal Diamond Plates
Cornes Technologies USA supplies single crystal diamond seeds and substrates fabricated by Excellent Diamond Products (EDP), the world’s leading manufacturer of single crystal diamond for gem and materials research applications. The CVD-grown single crystals are lifted off from seed crystals using a unique ion implantation process. Large mosaic crystals, consisting of multiple mono crystals, can be used for large tool blanks or substrates.
Superior hardness gives these crystals better wear resistance than HPHT. EDP crystals can be applied in optical parts for UV to far IR. They can be exposed to high energy density beams, and the ultra-thin, highly transparent plates serve as excellent X-ray windows. Exceptional hardness, size, purity and numerous other special features make EDP diamond the optimum choice for a broad spectrum of applications.
EDP seeds are far superior for gem applications than HPHT and other seeds cut from larger single crystals for several reasons, including:
- Uniformity: Unlike HPHP seeds, EDP seeds exhibit consistent 100 orientation with far more uniform seed-to-seed growth and stress pattern characteristics. This is essential to establishing uniform processes and recipes for MP-CVD gem applications.
- Low Stress Surfaces: EDP seeds offer unpolished “as grown” surfaces without the subsequent stresses and defects introduced by a polishing process. The unpolished top side exhibits step-flow terrasses of about 100µm long and Ra of approximately 2 µm, which makes them ideal for initiating high-quality gemstone production.
- Large Gem Applications: EDP seeds are available in sizes up to 15mm x 15mm x 0.3mm to address your most aggressive large carat gemstone production needs
- Most Economical: Minimizing cutting and polishing in EDP’s production processes results in both a higher quality and lower cost substrate which result in the highest production yields
Other Advantages of EDP single crystal diamond
- Greater hardness and toughness than natural or HPHT diamond
- Planar substrates with high purity, inclusion free and sector free
- Single-crystal diamonds up to 15mm square
- Mosaic-process diamonds up to 28mm square
- Thickness from 0.01 to 2.5mm, ultra-thin available to less than 50µm
- (110) and (111) plates for tools and electronics
- Laser-cut custom shapes: circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, etc.
- Ideal thermal diffusion coefficient to protect devices from generated heat
- Single- or double-sided polishing available:

STPL Laser Cutting Systems
Economical laser cutting and planning tools
STPL’s laser cutting products are highly complementary to CTU’s line of Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (MP-CVD) systems used in the production of diamond gems.
STPL’s economical laser cutting and planning tools are often used by CTU’s diamond gem customers in the preparation of materials used for diamond growth as well as in the preparation of roughs grown in CTU’s Seki Diamond Systems MP-CVDs.
Ensuring maximum carat yield requires careful preparation of seeds used in the diamond growth process and the optimization of yields through efficient planning, core and slicing of diamond roughs.
STPL’s laser cutting systems are ideal for lab grown diamond applications.
